Why a professional rather than the person who came along
In many appointments a family member interprets. It is well meant and it often goes wrong. Relatives leave out what they consider distressing, they interpret meaning instead of transferring words, and they stand in a relationship with the person concerned.
In a medical consent conversation this has a legal side. Consent only holds if the explanation actually arrived. In child protection it has a professional side, because the authority needs to hear what the family says, not what someone considers sayable.
An external interpreter transfers everything, in the first person, without adding an assessment. That role is the actual difference.
How booking works

Confirmation
You receive a binding confirmation with the name of the interpreter and the conditions.
Assignment
On site, by video or by phone, depending on what the situation and the institution allow.
